Guess the movie soundtrack
D | Wednesday, October 05, 2005
AFI has recently released the Top 25 Movie Scores (hat tip: Alex). The list is pretty solid with Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, and Lawrence of Arabia topping the list. In honor of this list (and actually this has been something I have wanted to do for a long time now), I have created a little competition.
Guess the Movie Soundtrack The file below is 3:30 seconds long and contains snippets of 23 separate movie scores. Download the MP3 file (3.3MB) and either email your answers or post a comment with your answers. The person who gets the most correct (or all correct) will win a prize (most likely some beer of your choosing).
Guess the Movie Soundtrack Mix MP3
Hint - Of the 23 soundtracks included, 6 are on AFI list above. Good luck.

Alex - 19 correct , 1 incorrect, 3 unknown... and he is still working on it.
Who will be next? (I think no one else will be playing, so Well done Al, I knew you would throw out some guesses - lets see if I can get my brother to take a stab at it)

I think you actually already owe me beer...
but this was too good of a challenge to pass up. Check your email for my list. It's still a work in progress, though...

Just so everyone knows, Kate and her roommate Christy are also working hard on this and so far have 14 confirmed correct with 9 still unknown.
Some of these films I knew would be pretty dificult, so little later, I will post the 3 hints I have given Alex and Kate for 3 of the more difficult pieces.

Well, this definitely killed an hour of my evening, and I had a blast doing it. Couldn't name the soundtrack from one of my favorite films of all time, (even with a clue!) but was bouncing on the couch when I landed one with hardly any score at all. Great fun, D. :)

Kate and Christy wrapped up with: 18-1-4
As a side note, there is at least one piece of music which has been used in multiple films. I will accept any film which uses this piece as a correct answer.

So you know, you missed #3,8,11, and 15. Ask Al what he got on those.

And, I am accepting that at least one piece was used in at least three seperate films. I will give credit for any of the three films for that selection.

Damn, I can only name four definitively. I suck. Of course, my pre-1990, post-2001 movie knowledge pretty much sucks. Boo for me. I have failed, D.

Sorry Brooke. What can I say? So everyone knows, version two may be coming later this week.
