The un-friendly skies

Delta and Northwest both filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on the same day. Ouch. Here are a few things I found interesting/painful:

1. Yahoo! news article claims that Delta's total loses for the past few years total over 10 billion dollars. Their current debt is listed at 28.3 and assets at 21.6 billion. For those not doing the mental math, that creates a "gap" of 6.7 BILLION dollars.

2. Delta's company website has some general info and some FAQs. In case you were worried but about your measly 2,000 SkyMiles (and not about the 6.7 billion dollars), fear not, they are secure.

3. Probably the most telling story about the airline industry can be seen by looking at stock price over the past 5 years. Yikes. Delta. United. Northwest.
