Holiday Update II
D | Thursday, August 25, 2005
Last night I went to dinner on the ocean and then saw The Dukes of Hazzard. I'm going to be honest here and admit that 1. I never watched the show as a kid, so I didn't know much of the complicated intricate difficult to unravel backstory and 2. "Duke" is their last name and "Hazzard" is the county where they live. Bo Duke. Luke Duke (what a terrible name). Daisy Duke. And Hazzard County, GA. I always thought they were like "The Lords of Danger." I must honestly be retarded...
Going in expecting nothing, I was pleasantly surprised by the film. Of course Knoxville and Scott are an entertaining pair to watch act stupid. There were a few choices scenes like when they hit each other with a phone book or go visit a sorority house (I knew it!). The car scenes were well done and pretty cool to watch. Of course Jessica Simpson was nice to look at, but every time I saw her on the screen I couldn't help but think of how many takes they had to do for her to get her line(s) right. Most surprising was the fact that the movie had a plot, an honest to god figure out his problem and try to fix it plot. Couldn't believe it. I was also surprised at how funny I found it. There were a lot of well-written little blurbs of dialogue that had me laughing out loud. Perhaps my favorite part of the whole thing was while the credits are rolling they showed an out-take reel; the number of General Lee cars they destroyed filming this movie has got to be in upwards of 25. The car would do some ridiculous jump (which they safely land in the movie) and the stunt driver would loose control of the car and go careening off into the median (like Alex).
All in all, keep your expectations low and go see it with some guy friends.

I'm disappointed that Jessica Simspon decided to sell herself on sex now. I want the nice, girl-next-door, platymapus-saying, giggly girl that I fell in love with on "Newlyweds."
