The Highline
D | Friday, July 29, 2005

I was browsing the internet yesterday and found something that truly surprised me. Apparently there is an abandoned elevated railroad line that runs for 1.5 miles down the west side of Manhattan, called The Highline. It starts about 2 blocks from where I used to live and runs all the way south into the Meatpacking district. As soon as I looked at some of the pictures, it dawned on me that I have walked under the line probably 30 times without ever knowing what it is.

Just goes to show that sometimes even a city can surprise you. Those readers who live in NYC should see when the organization is doing their next "walk" of the tracks and sign up. How cool would that be?

Be sure to check out some of the pictures and the route maps.
