Flag Burning
D | Thursday, June 16, 2005
A recent article in USA Today was discussing the most recent round of the flag buring amendment. Another vote will be taking place in the future and this one looks to be close.

I have strong views about this but first I want to ask what everyone else thought about flag burning. I honestly don't know what people from my generation (my typical reader) think about flag buring. So here it is:

Should their be a Constitutional Amendment to ban flag burning? Why?

I think the people who burn flags are small-minded asses who can't figure out another way to protest. Burning the flag disrespects the country, it disrespects the people who fought for it, and it disrespects everything any of us stand for. That said, I'm a big believer in freedom of expression and don't think there should be an Amendment banning it. The flag is a symbol, and while it's hurtful to see someone destroy it, this country is about allowing even stupid people to express themselves within certain bounds. I don't think burning a flag crosses those bounds.

An amendment on flag burning? You've got to be kidding. Oh, the mail I'm going to have to answer on this one. Sigh. Stupid Hill job.

Lindsay,
I read your comment. Thanks for stopping by of course, but I couldn't figure out if you were more in favor of Indiana or not in favor of Indiana? Clarify? And just as an aside, I wasn't making fun of people from Indiana so much as I was making fun of random things I happen to find in Indiana. See?

R,
Couldn't agree with you more.

J,
Ha. Tell me where you work, and I will send you a weekly letter asking for a response on various national problems. "Dear Senator, I have a problem with pot holes on the street in front of my house. Also the lady next door lets her dog crap in my yard. Can the Federal government help with these issues? Thanks, A concerned VOTER."

Wow, I just went crazy on some random Anon poster on Brooke's blog. She wrote a nice post abotu the Flag Burning Amendment and I tee-ed off on some unsuspecting mud-slinger. Oh well.

Read it here.
