Damn you Welter

One of Welter's most recent posts has sent me on a quest for knowledge/humor. How many people actually die every year from encounters with vending machines?
37 deaths from 1978 to 1995 OR approximately 2 per year How does that number compare with encounters with wild animals or other truly deadly means?
More people are killed by: Fireworks (approx 4/yr) Venomous Snakes (15/yr) Dogs (18/yr) Reptiles (bitten/crushed approx 45/yr) Lightning (58/yr (of which 5% of the lightning deaths in the past 35 yrs occurred while playing golf or apporx 3/yr)) Ball point pens, choking (approx 100/yr) White Tailed Deer (130/yr, BY FAR the most dangerous domestic animal) Falling from a height of 6 feet or more (540/yr) Unintentional Drowning (9/day or 3285/yr) Pedestrian fatalities from traffic crashes (approx 4808/yr) Less people are killed by: Bears (approx 1 every 2 yrs) Mountain Lions (1/yr) Toothpaste overdose (approx 1 every 2.5 yrs)

I love the fact that you do research for your blog. I would say we need to find you a hobby, but I think all this will come crashing to a hault around May 18th....
Is the ball point pens one choking on ball point pens or is it choking or like being stabbed with a ball point?

recently i witnessed a pedestrian being hit by a car. it was the most horrific thing i have ever seen. yes, this topic is morbid. but don't we all just have this innate morbid curiosity?

Chocking on the pen, I think. I imagine the statistic was refering to people who chew on the pen and choke on it. Maybe the cap, I don't know. --- Morbid? I guess so, but it wasn't meant to be anything but funny. Sorry if it came off as morbid, but seriously, the most dangerous animal in the United States is the white tailed deer. You gotta see that as just a little bit funny, right? --- As for being hit by a car - YIKES. I always heard rumors that NYU students who were strapped for cash would make it a habit to throw themselves in front of slow moving cabs in order to pocket some quick cash because the cab companies would always settle out of court. Don't know if it is true, but still YIKES.

You need to be able to laugh at everything in life. I hope I die in a really funny way like a darwin awards way. That way my funeral will be really awkward but years later my friends will laugh in an exchange like the following:
Friend A: Man, it would be great to have Welter here... Friend B: Too bad he was trying to super glue a quarter to the street when he got hit by that horse drawn carriage. Friend A: What are the odds of the super glue tube exploding and gluing him to the pavement, just before an out of work zamboni driver decided to go for a joy ride. (awkward silence followed by hysterical laugther) Friend B: Are we allowed to laugh at this? Friend A: It's been two years, it's just like the ex-girlfriend rule. Friend B: Oh ok, hahahahahaahah... super glue....

Welter, What is the ability to make fun of ex-girlfriend rule?
Nickey, 1. Wow, that is a ridiculous story, which, if not told which such precision, I would have doubted was actually true.
2. The toothpaste isn't what kills you, it's the flouride in the toothpaste. So, to answer your question: Potentially fatal dose = 5 mg of fluoride per kg of bodyweight The Average 5 yr old child would have to eat approx 63% of a tube of "Colgate for Kids" to ingest a fatal dose of flouride. [Colgate BLOWS, ed] Check out the full chart here
3. I have yet to find any information on if it is possible to develope a tolerance. I'll keep looking.
